IBM Sports’ main mission as a US Open sponsor is to give tennis fans new ways to experience the game they love. And through this, feel a more meaningful connection to IBM. For the 2015 tournament, we created a site experience on usopen.org/ibm that celebrated tennis and the city that makes the tournament so unique: New York City.
We created six pillars of content for the site: two of which were created or updated with real time player stats as the matches were underway. All 256 pieces of content we posted over the 14-day tournament could be shared on Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and LinkedIn.
Tennis + NYC. :15 animations (27 in total) featuring real time tennis data with comparisons to NYC points of interest. These we populated with stats in real time and posted to the US Open website for sharing as the tournament progressed.
Scores + More. Data visualizations of key stats from IBM Slamtracker, also generated in real-time.
US Open Trivia. Tiles that drew on highlights from US Opens from years past.
At The Open. Influencer- and IBM social channel-sourced content on happenings in and around Flushing Meadows.
NYC Courts. Figurative map illustrations featuring some of the lesser-known courts in and around New York City.
NYC Tips. Video gifs giving out-of-towners hints on navigating the City with insider New York knowledge.
